MANDATORY GEAR

MANDATORY GEAR rules
Mandatory equipment of the participant may be checked in the starting area before the start of the adventure.

Participants missing required equipment, either at the start or during the event, will be disqualified and will not be eligible to receive a HIGHLANDER Pin, Patch and Certificate.

LYRA FORMAT:

  • Head torch / flashlight
  • Start water 3L
  • Hydration bladder or water bottles with a minimum total volume of 3L
  • Food pot & cutlery (for sustainability reasons)
  • Warm clothing and footwear suitable for terrain and conditions
  • Boots or trail runners (footwear)
  • First-aid supplies (bandages, adhesive tape, adhesive bandages, stretch bandages, sterile gauze, antiseptic, repellent, pain relievers, survival blanket, ...)
  • Trash bag (provided by organizer)
  • Mobile phone

ALL OTHER FORMATS:

  • Tent or bivouac sack or hammock and waterproof tarp
  • Sleeping bag (not required if bringing bivouac sack) 
  • Sleeping pad (not required if bringing bivouac sack with a built-in sleeping pad)

  • Water purification tablets or drops or filter 
  • Portable stove (gas / gasoline / alcohol)
  • Start water 3L
  • Hydration bladder or water bottles with a minimum total volume of 3L

  • Compass

SHARED EQUIPMENT

Some of the equipment can be shared in a group of maximum 4 people.

However, the group must cross the Finish Line within a time difference of no more than 30 minutes from the first to the last group member. Participants sharing equipment must inform the organizing staff at Registration. Staff may check equipment before the start. Participants missing required equipment, either at the start or during the adventure, will be disqualified and will not be eligible to receive a HIGHLANDER Pin, Patch, and Certificate.

  • Tent
  • Portable stove (gas / gasoline / alcohol)
  • Compass 
  • First-aid supplies (bandages, adhesive tape, adhesive bandages, stretch bandages, sterile gauze, antiseptic, repellent, pain relievers)

VIOLATION OF THE RULES

Participants will be disqualified under the following circumstances ➝
  • If groups the teams sharing gear reach the finish line more than 30 minutes apart 
  • Preventing staff from verifying that gear meets requirements
  • Missing required gear 
  • Littering
  • Fire starting 
  • Sleeping or cooking in mountain lodges, huts, or other accommodation facilities
  • Borrowing equipment from the same facilities
  • Bivouacking outside of the designated camps

REGISTRATION INCLUDES

You can leave your additional luggage with us. Leave it at the registrations and collect it after you finish. Please note that the Organizer is not responsible for any of your valuable items.
  • On duty Mountain Rescue Service
  • Premium mountaineering food: 3 meals per day (dehydrated food, cold cuts, cheese, bread, ready meals)
  • Hot meal(s)
  • HIGHLANDER Bandana
  • HIGHLANDER ID – detailed itinerary showing all checkpoints (with dedicated checkpoint stamp spaces) 
  • HIGHLANDER gpx map
  • HIGHLANDER Physical map - EXCEPT LYRA FORMAT
  • HIGHLANDER Pin
  • HIGHLANDER Patch
  • HIGHLANDER Certificate
  • Educational and leisure activities
  • Infrastructure at start, finish, checkpoints and along the route

Food

The Organizer will provide meals to be distributed at checkpoints with the vegan option for those who choose it during the registration process.

Provided meals are suited to the average daily needs of an average adult: cooked food, dehydrated food, ready meals, spreads, cheese, cold cuts, and bread.

Participants supply their own snacks and extra food (as deemed necessary). 

Water will be made available during staff working hours. 

Detailed information on the provided meals will be given in a timely manner.

Water

You must bring your own water to the Start (3L).

Plenty of drinking water will be available at all checkpoints. 

Mountain water is generally safe for drinking, but using water purification (tablets/drops/filter) may be a good idea.

BIVOUACKING AND SITES

BIVOUACKING AND SITES rules
Participants choose their bivouacking spot on the site.

Participants of Lyra format do not bivouack.

Sleeping arrangements may only include the required gear - tent with sleeping pad and sleeping bag.

Fires are prohibited. There will be designated bonfires set up by the organizer in specific locations.

TIME LIMITS

HIGHLANDER is not a race but it does have a time limit.

All participants who collected all stamps and came to finish by the time of the finish closing, will receive their HIGHLANDER Pin, Patch and Certificate.

CHECKPOINTS

Each format has a certain amount of mandatory checkpoints. 

Participants must collect all checkpoint stamps in their HIGHLANDER ID. 

Checkpoint stamp collection is the sole responsibility of the participant. If the event staff is not present at a checkpoint, participants must stamp their HIGHLANDER ID themselves.

LITTERING AND WASTE

Littering and polluting is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification.

DOGS

Dogs are not allowed to participate in this event.

WITHDRAWING

In the event of a serious injury or inability to walk, and if there is no cellular coverage, this must be reported at the nearest checkpoint through other participants or the organizers so that emergency service can be called.

Organizers will not be held liable for any expense for drop-out.

The organizer is not responsible in any way for participants' withdrawal. Withdrawing participants will be responsible for making their own transportation arrangements.

THE ORGANIZER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE RULES.
