LEAVE NO TRACE

Highlander Australia is committed to protecting the environment and follows the "Leave No Trace" principles. These guidelines promote responsible outdoor practices that help minimise our impact on nature and ensure the places we explore remain pristine for future generations.

  1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
This involves researching the area, understanding regulations, and preparing for potential challenges like weather conditions and wildlife encounters.
  2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Stick to established trails, campsites, and durable surfaces like rock or gravel to avoid damaging vegetation and soil.
  3. Dispose of Waste Properly
Pack out all trash, food scraps, and human waste. Use designated toilets where provided or bury waste properly if necessary.
  4. Leave What You Find
Don't collect natural items like rocks, plants, or artifacts. Leave them undisturbed for others to enjoy.
  5. Minimize Campfire Impacts
Use a lightweight stove for cooking and minimize the use of campfires. If building a campfire, use established fire rings or pits and ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
  6. Respect Wildlife
Observe wildlife from a distance, avoid feeding them, and store food securely to prevent attracting them.
  7. Be Considerate of Other Visitors
Respect the experience of other visitors by keeping noise levels down and being mindful of shared spaces.

Litter

We believe our participants love and cherish nature and all its beauty. We know you wouldn’t litter, so please bring a waste bag for your litter.

Littering on and around trails, checkpoints, and mountain lodges is forbidden. Litterers will be disqualified and banned from applying to any future HIGHLANDER events.
