Discover a place where the fierce Bura wind shapes epic island peaks and trails.
Embark on the first leg of HIGHLANDER Lošinj and prepare for a truly breathtaking journey across some of the island’s most stunning landscapes. Starting in the historic town of Osor on Cres Island, you’ll cross the Kavuada channel - a site rich in cultural heritage - before setting off into the rugged, untamed karst terrain. This 19 km trail takes you up the mighty Osoršćica ridge, where two of Lošinj’s most iconic peaks await: St. Nikola (557 m), crowned with a chapel, and Televrina (588 m), the island’s highest summit. As you hike, the views over the Kvarner Gulf open up, offering some of the most spectacular panoramas in the region.
Midway, discover the ancient Gradina Polanža, a Bronze Age fortress nestled atop a panoramic hill near Ćunski. Every step of this route brings you closer to Lošinj’s wild beauty and rich history, challenging both your stamina and spirit as the powerful Bura winds remind you of nature’s force. This is an adventure where each vista and historical landmark connects you to the island’s past and the exhilarating journey ahead.
On Day 2 of HIGHLANDER Lošinj, the trail leads you from Ćunski to Rt Vila, taking you along an awe-inspiring 14.5 km route that clings to the island’s coastal edge. The rugged karst terrain here presents a technical challenge, with sections of rocky "škraping" (scrambling) that require steady footing and sharp focus. While the elevation gain is modest (155 m ascent, 218 m descent), the path’s proximity to the coastline promises unbroken views of the Adriatic, the sound of waves in your ears, and the tang of sea air as you hike.
After setting off from the bivaq spot in Ćunski, a scenic public area on the town’s edge, you’ll pass by Torać, an ancient olive mill - the only one of its kind on the island - still operating in its traditional way. The route winds beneath Tovar Hill, a military-restricted area for over 160 years, adding a touch of mystery and history to the journey.
As you approach Privlaka, a narrow stretch of Lošinj Island (just 80 meters wide), you’ll cross the canal that separates the island’s two halves. Here, an iconic movable bridge opens at specific times each day to allow boats to pass through - a fascinating spot on the route that gives you a glimpse into island life.
The final stretch leads you through a series of enchanting bays, each one a tranquil escape with sparkling water and hidden coves. As you reach the trail’s end at Rt Vila in Veli Lošinj, the beauty of the journey will linger, capturing the raw, unfiltered essence of the island and leaving you exhilarated for what’s still to come.
